Susie Taylor, wife of Footsteps Trustee Rupert, successfully completed a 12 hours sponsored silence to raise £1100 to sponsor the secondary education of Rodgers.
On her fundraising page Susie wrote, "As anyone who has ever met me knows only too well... being silent is not something that comes easily to me! As the person who lives with it all the time, Rupert gets the brunt of it so it is no great surprise that he has come up with the great idea that I should do a sponsored silence to raise money for Rodgers."
Speaking before the event Rupert said, "The challenge for Susie will be pretty huge but nothing in comparison to the challenges that Rodgers has already faced, and will continue to face in his life. Every penny Susie can raise will help make his challenges a little bit easier and give him the start in life he deserves – he is an inspirational boy!"
Rupert set up a webcam in the kitchen so that all those sponsoring Susie could ensure that she stuck to the task and at the break of silence at 8pm friends and family were present to hear her first words.
We assume they were something like, "Rupert, I'm going to kill you for talking me into that!"
